VOLUNTEERS AT Darul Ummah (House of the Community) Goresbrook took part in a community litter pick in partnership with the Little Litter League. Volunteers worked in pairs, and their impressive haul has set a new Little Litter League record. Darul Ummah Goresbrook officially opened its doors to the community last Friday and will offer various services including coffee mornings, outreach programmes, study support, recreation and training programmes, prayer services, football, IT support and a cycling club. The litter pick was held to celebrate the opening of the new centre. Twenty volunteers took part in the community event and collected 31 litter bags in the area immediately local to the Centre. The session was led by Little Litter League team captain Emdad Rahman. Zoinul Abidin, on behalf of the volunteers’ team, commented, “This is a proud and deeply memorable occasion for us all. We are committed to spreading positivity within our diverse community and our new centre offers a remarkable opportunity for us to all come together. Today has seen some simply outstanding work from everyone involved. We are proud and grateful to serve, and it is an added bonus that we’ve broken the Little Litter League record today.” According to Keep Britain Tidy, more than two million pieces of litter are dropped in the UK every day. The cost to the taxpayers for street cleaning is over £1 billion a year.
